Being in an non-US timezone is making the issues worse. What playerbase there is is being further fragmented by both timezone and the stakes people are playing. It's been difficult to work up to the stakes other regulars are playing without as many games available. If I could at least reliably get penny games that would be nice. I was hoping this would be more playable with the influx of players at launch but it hasn't really worked out that way.
Not to be a downer, just hoping there's some way to make this work.
Turn time is one of the few ways to get a psychological read on your opponent (or try to manipulate the read they have on you). The game would feel really different with tweaks to that aspect. Shorter turns would favour confident, bullying strategies over thoughtful patient strategies, and I know I appreciate that this can be a thinking game.
How about have your open contest, but then reward the top X players with an invitation to the exclusive winners tournament on the final day, which has the more lucrative prizes. That one could even be knockout-style with controlled matchups, though I guess that's an issue with multiple timezones etc.
I definitely suspected the same, especially when they still raised when the graph showed clearly they had lost that round. Mistakes happen but it was pretty suspicious. This was a while ago, mind, I think they have tweaked their strategy a bit since then.
It's certainly intriguing.
As much as I know it annoys people, I like the idea of playing around with strategies of leaving early and minimising how much information your opponent has about you. But I agree that things like bullying people to fold early and then leaving is not satisfying for anyone. The flat leaving penalty seems like a fair compromise.
Definitely won't be making it from the other side of the world, but I hope we get to see some pictures of the booth.
