Saturday $5 Tournament

A 2-hour tournament will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 starting at 11:00 AM Pacific time and ending at 1:00 PM Pacific time.

(That's 2-4 PM Eastern, or 7-9 PM GMT, with apologies to Europe and beyond).

The entry fee is $5.00

The entry fees go directly into the prize pool and are not used to fund your matches in the tournament.  Your tournament matches must be funded out of your remaining account balance after your entry fee is paid.

The target game stake for matches in the tournament is 10 cents.

You will see this stake level highlighted in your client.  Only games played for 10 cents count toward the tournament.  If you have entered the tournament, you will be blocked from accidentally joining 10-cent games with non-tournament players.  However, you can still play at other stake levels during the tournament---those games will not affect your tournament standing one way or the other.

The winners are determined according to who has the most net profit at 10-cent games against other tournament players by the deadline.  Play as many or as few games as you want during the tournament---it's profit that counts.

A leaderboard will eventually appear here, along with a count-down:

http://cordialminuet.com/gameServer/ser … ea_goat_18

If you want a preview of prizes for various numbers of players, look here, where the hypothetical prizes for a 20-player tournament are displayed:

http://cordialminuet.com/gameServer/ser … players=20

Prizes will be paid automatically into the winners' account balances within four minutes after the tournament deadline.

Note:

To prevent collusion between accounts, you will stop being partnered with another player after net profit of 20 cents or more has moved between you.  Thus, you cannot win by feeding off of one fish player or dummy account repeatedly.  If you are winning and losing back-and-forth against a given player, however, you can play an unlimited number of games until the net profit for one player from that pairing crosses the 20-cent mark.

Re: Saturday $5 Tournament

I just won 5 cents.  I am scared I am going to become addicted tongue haha it felt immensely satisfying to get the win.  I thought there would be like a 21 age limit since it is gambling. But I'm 17.  Good game so far though!

Re: Saturday $5 Tournament

There's no legal requirement for an age limit because it's a game of skill.  Similar to a chess tournament or a spelling bee.

Re: Saturday $5 Tournament

Hmm... at what point can you leave a round that you have obviously won without forfeiting the winnings? Knowing this could have secured me a more solid 2nd place.

Re: Saturday $5 Tournament

Yeah, the draw for third place was unexpected, especially at the last minute!

Also, Promotion Pole is a brand new player who just joined yesterday.  Already up to #5 on the Elo board!

Obviously, this tournament didn't have the same wow factor as the last one with its inflated $420 prize pool.  But this was totally sustainable.  And first place got close to 5x their entry fee, which seems worthwhile.

Re: Saturday $5 Tournament

I assume it'd have to be after both final bets have been placed, and only if a re-bet isn't required. And perhaps if both players called an all-in after all numbers were picked.

Re: Saturday $5 Tournament

As soon as the reveal starts happening, you can leave.  You don't have to wait for the chips to move.

If your opponent folded, I'd wait for the chips to start moving.  You don't have to wait for them to all move---that's just an animation showing what has already happened on the server.

Re: Saturday $5 Tournament

But all-in, you still need to wait until the reveal.  The game isn't won on the server until that point, so if one player leaves, they will forfeit.

Re: Saturday $5 Tournament

Hmm, shouldn't Jere and I have gotten half of both the 2nd/3rd prizes each rather than both just the prize for 3rd? Looks like you've taken more than your 20% this time Jason.

Edit: Having done some calculations it looks like the prize pool now should be 90% of buy ins, not 80%. This time it was only 83%

Re: Saturday $5 Tournament

Josh, yeah, that may need to be fixed.

The house take was actually only 10% for this tournament, but I did get extra because of the draw.

The prizes are computed in an incremental fashion starting at the bottom, where if you're tied with the person immediately above you, they get the same prize as you instead of the larger prize they should get.

It would be easy enough to give them the average of the two prizes, but this breaks for three-way and larger ties because of the incremental way that it's done.

For example, when a 10-player tournament starts, there's a 10-way tie for 10th place.  It wouldn't make sense to give everyone 1/10th of the whole prize pool at that point, so they are all assigned the 10th place prize, which is 0.

I may have to rethink this algorithm.
