Yes, this is true. JA deposited nothing beyond the initial $1.64.
That should never happen! Sounds like a bug that slipped through the alpha testing.
I tried to look up your account using your forum email address, but I couldn't find you. Please email me with your email address so I can look you up:

Also, please send me the recordedGame file that shows this happening. If you haven't played since then, and you're on Windows, you can also send me your stdout.txt file.
Thanks for reporting this!
Well, there are a few options.
First and easiest, you could just be playing against the wild internet. This would be best "for the game" in that these casino players would be in our pool. Say there's 10 terminals in the casino, and none are explicitly paired together. You could be playing someone 3 seats down or 300 miles away.
But if you wanted live paired players (more exciting), you could have some way of separating them to avoid information leaking through the bystanders. Maybe the players can't see their opponent's bystanders.
I have been contacted by the elusive Jeopardy Alcohol.
Over four months, Jeopardy Alcohol has turned an initial $1.64 starting balance into $450 and stricken fear into the hearts of many other players.
Jeopardy Alcohol is at the top of the games played leaderboard, and we are nearing Jeopardy Alcohol's 1000th game.
In celebration of Jeopardy Alcohol's 1000th game, Jeopardy Alcohol has proposed the following challenge:
When the 1000th game comes, Jeopardy Alcohol will create a game with a $10.00 stake. Whoever plays that game against Jeopardy Alcohol and wins chips by the end (leaves with more than 100 chips) will have their winnings matched five-fold by Jeopardy Alcohol. For example, if you walk away with $5 profit, Jeopardy Alcohol will give you an additional $25 bounty.
Furthermore, I have decided to match this bounty, and kick in another 5-fold bonus. Thus, whatever chips you win as profit in that game will be matched with a 10-fold total bounty. For example, if you walk away with $7.50 profit, Jeopardy Alcohol and I together will give you an additional $75 bounty. The bounty will be paid as a deposit into your game account balance.
Of course, if you walk away with a chip loss, you will receive no bounty.
I think if the coins were mid-flight and hadn't hit your stack yet, the client was doing the calculation based on your stack as it stands without the flying coins added in. Thus, it says PAY 0. But if you had waited for at least 6 coins to land, it would have said PAY 6.
Also, the "PAY ___" sub-message is concocted when you press the LEAVE button the first time. So, the penalty is computed then. Thus, it would be stuck on PAY 0 even if some coins had landed, as long as you pressed LEAVE before any landed.
Well, thankfully Jason has said he isn't interested in selling the concept to brick-and-mortar casinos (at least that's what I think I've read).
I hope I never said that, because it's certainly something that would be a dream-come-true scenario for me. I don't know about "selling it," but some arrangement with a casino or poker room to host face-to-face terminals with back-to-back monitors would be amazing.
About everyone cheating if it was installed on the casino floor, how do you mean?
Yes, most casinos still have one player-vs-player game left, and that's poker. It's not a huge money maker, and there was a history of casinos removing their poker rooms to make room for more lucrative vs-the-house games, but then the poker boom happened, and poker was such a draw that the trend reversed. Casinos always put the poker way in the back, though, so you have to walk by all the other games on the way in and the way out.
Yeah, I dunno... I get studying your opponent's post-game state, but only if you're staying. I don't want to clutter the flow with another decision point there.
Press "=" to save a screen shot at any time, by the way.
Hey, that is very cool! I like the "never seen it" icon.
You know, the game is somewhat skinnable already (just change what's in the graphics folder, and edit English.txt). However, the background is fixed at black. If the bg color could easily be changed, it would become VERY skinnable. Maybe I need support for a background image too, besides just a solid color.
Given that the game is open source, I should make this easy. It might be cool to have a reskin/retheming contest. There's actually something thematically rich and on target about the "kitten" version of this game, especially if it is played on the same server against the occult people.
A cultural Trojan horse.
Kinda like this activity book for kids:
Yeah, I've thought about this a lot.
On the one hand, it's really important for me to make something that I'm 100% proud of and excited about from every angle. If it scares people away, it's kinda working, because it should be scary. It should be weird. I want you to feel like, "Whoa, I can't believe I'm actually entering my credit card into this strange, creepy thing."
On the other hand, I do want the game to be successful.
Those two things, it seems, cannot be reconciled.
What's the point of success if it's compromised? I want to make the coolest thing I can possibly make, and have it be a success BECAUSE there's so many people out there who share my taste. I don't want to pander to what I think more people would like.
There has been a lot of talk over the year about "reskinning" CM to be more appealing to this or that demographic. If you go into a casino, you will see the Egyptian slot machine, the Kitten slot machine, the Irish slot machine, the Fishing slot machine, the Pirate slot machine. When I walk in there, I see nothing but the blandest cultural garbage. Still, it obviously works. You could imagine 20 different versions of CM with 20 different titles and 20 different websites.
The problem with that is that then there'd be nothing to talk about. There'd be nothing interesting about it. It would be just another culturally brain-dead gambling thing. So, I'm pretty sure that would backfire. Kotaku, Dtoid, RPS, etc., wouldn't even mention it.
I guess, at the end of the day, I'd rather make something that makes a few people say, "HOLY CRAP THAT IS AWESOME," than something about which everyone in the world says, "Meh, yeah, I play that too, who doesn't?"
Slot machines? Yeah, I've played slot machines.
Thanks! That was a great post.
I responded to a few questions there and will participate more tomorrow as needed.
This Reddit r/poker thread is getting a bit lively:
Think of nothing... think of nothing... think of nothing...
Oh no, what did you do, Ray?
On some platforms, the game can tell when it's minimized and pauses itself to reduce framerate and save CPU.
When paused, it doesn't respond to any events until unpaused, I think. So, that may prevent the chime from sounding. You can experiment with it by intentionally pausing it (ESC).
For example, the REFRESH button on the main page waits 5 seconds before appearing. If you pause it in the middle it won't appear until unpaused.
Yep, thanks for reminding me about that. I should keep active on there.
Yikes.
Did you notice the lights dim in the room, or a door slam, or anything?
Whoops. Yeah, I guess none of this is going to work...
Okay, here's a try at HN:
Okay, here's another Reddit try:
dot-dot:
Reddit auto-pulled an image of the wax models from the site that I linked to and had a thumbnail there. I didn't pick the image... not sure how they decided which image to use. Probably the first rectangular image on the page. Now that image seems to be gone.
Yeah, I think that's what I saw too. It was a long time ago, though...
Cordial Minuet violates PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy:
https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/u … leuse-full
You may not use the PayPal service for ... any other activity with an entry fee and a prize, including, but not limited to ... games of skill ...
PayPal is notorious for freezing Fantasy Football accounts and taking the funds, even though Fantasy Football is legal in the US.
Stripe, on the other hand, just forbids "Gambling" and does not include games of skill:
https://stripe.com/us/prohibited-businesses
Also, because Stripe accounts don't store a balance (they deposit into my bank account daily), even if they did decide to block me, they wouldn't be able to steal the money like PayPal can.
dot-dot, I didn't remember what the blending artifact looked like. Just that it was too ugly to show in the PAX booth!
Some of my games obey the screen dimension settings in the settings folder, but I don't think this one does. I think dot-dot probably modified the source to achieve that.
This is the best launch article about CM, and it's on a site that never covered it before:
Also, if anyone has and contacts or leads in the world of poker journalism, please let me know.
Well, then I guess I have to wait for someone else to post on 2+2 about the game.
Hint hint...
