I also miss CM!! I still talk about it now and then...
Hey Niateph!
If you ever get to that point, hit me up first please! Of course, I'd rather you find your situation to wear it proudly before then.
I'll send you an email just in case you don't see this.
May I suggest Telegram? I play a game called Armello that, up until a recent Steam sale, has a very sparse player population. Some of us formed a Telegram group to chat it up and organize games and events. It works on mobile and has a desktop client. It's incredibly handy. The only downside is that you sign up with your mobile number and only has one identity. So it's sort of the opposite of CM in terms of anonymity.
Anyway, I stopped back in these forums here to see what was going on. I got the itch to play again. I miss it.
If garments infection is still around, I'd be tempted to find out how much the ol' catface amulet is worth!
Back when we were talking about how to expand the game beyond more than just 1v1, I had this weird idea about being able to watch two people playing and betting on the numbers they would get, sorta like keno or roulette, or even letting multiple people watch and those viewers could bet amongst themselves on who would win.
I never actually suggested this, because I'm not sure it would still qualify as skilled-based betting and wouldn't get pass the internet gambling laws. Something like that would allow people who are frustrated about losing a way to still play the game, tho.
The only thing CM needs is more eyeballs.
This has been discussed before, but a cashless version of CM on Steam might attract a lot of attention.
I absolutely agree with this.
Also, during the launch contest I found myself wishing I could just play on my phone or tablet. I looked a bit in to it and it seems that betting games ~are~ allowed on iOS (depending on the region). So CM could be put on iOS completely intact.
Edit: As long as we're doing our wishlists here, I still think modifying tournaments to be player-created instead of timed (like I mentioned in another thread) would greatly benefit the community. I'm noticing on the Twitterbot that there are people playing, just all at different times against String Corn. If tournaments were special things we could organize to get everyone playing at the same time... well, that'd be pretty neat.
HEY MCFLY.
He originally mentioned 36 amulets here, and this is an excellent point. I don't recall exactly when the switch from 36 to 12 happened, but I seem to remember it occured after a few of them had already been made...
Oh hey! An amulet! Sweet!!
I updated this post: http://cordialminuet.com/incrementensem … 2959#p2959
Anyway, the mysterious nature of Cordial Minuet is what partially drew me to the game in the first place, so I suppose it's fitting that there remain some unsolved mysteries. Still, it would be nice if we could at least find out more about that Jeopardy Alcohol...
Ditto on both counts!
Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to be solving whatever secret the amulets hold.
However, on the same topic of solving mysterious occult riddles, I thought you guys might enjoy this freshly-posted Kotaku article:

Professor, nooooooooo! Jere's right, you're a brave soul for giving this a shot. Sorry to see you go
This is such an exciting and overwhelmingly scary challenge... it's going to be interesting to see how this goes.
Awesome! I don't know how to do that spoiler thingy, so I'll be vague... it was the same number but I was 2 points the other direction! It is updating live apparently, so as people guess lower and lower, that number should change! Then again, there are some people who don't think that far ahead and drive the average back the other direction.
I feel like I get in that same headspace when I play CM. My opponent is countering but I'm countering his countering. Those are some of the most intense matches
Hey guys!
If you'd like to start live streaming Cordial Minuet through Twitch, I've written this handy little guide on setting it up. It's fairly easy and straight-forward.
In order to stream Cordial Minuet, you have to set up a scene for it:
Launch OBS
Right-click in the "Scenes" area
Select "Add Scene"
Give it a name (ie "Cordial Minuet")
Launch Cordial Minuet
Go back to OBS
Select the scene you created
Right-click the sources area
Add > Game Capture
Give it a name (ie "Game Window")
Under the Application drop-down, select "[CORDIAL_MINUET]: CORDIAL MINUET
Make sure "Capture mouse cursor" is checked
That's really all you need in your scene to get started. You can play around with adding other sources if you'd like. For example, I'm working on creating a background slideshow to put behind the game so people can learn and understand what they're watching. During the first test contest, I live streamed once where I put an auto refreshing amulet leaderboard along side the game. You can do a lot of fun things with the stream, especially since CM only takes up 1/3 of the width of the screen.
In order to broadcast your game to Twitch.tv, or just make a recording to create a side-by-side video, you need to set up your broadcast settings.
Click Settings
Go to Broadcast Settings
Set Mode to "Live Stream" if you want to stream, or "File Output Only" if not.
If streaming to Twitch, change the service to Twitch and enter your Stream Key
If you're streaming CM, I recommend adding a stream delay so your opponent can't find and use your live stream against you.
A round in CM consists of four betting stages, three picking stages, and a reveal stage. Each stage has a maximum time of one minute. So if you want to be absolutely sure you're safe, set the option Delay (seconds) to 480.
If you're planning to make a side-by-side video, you'll want to make sure the "Automatically save stream to file" is checked.
Lastly, take a look at the audio and video settings. You'll want to make sure the video is set to 1920x1080, and the audio source is pointing to your microphone if you plan to talk while you record.
The way jere and I were able to record ourselves talking was simply through Skype. OBS captures both sides of the conversation if you have it set up correctly.
Jere was the one to combine both sides, but that's should probably be another guide altogether.
Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!
Thanks!
I haven't forgotten about writing up an OBS guide! I've been working on the tutorial slides for my livestream. I'll hop on OBS this weekend and do a little write up.
Also, mildly off-topic, I found this thing the NY Times is doing that you guys might find interesting:
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015 … aders.html
In my head I feel like it uses the same sort of strategic thinking as CM, and I was only 2 points off!
Ok then... now I'm intrigued!
I'm really sorry to hear that, Jason. It's totally understandable that you wouldn't want to put any more in to it at the point.
I'm thankful that you did it though, regardless of the risk. I think at this point, any audience building will need to be done by us in the community, as long as the server remains.
Oh, I wasn't really thinking of growth, but just if Jason has moved on from CM, then it would be cool if the community could be in control of the tournaments. Like if we decided hey, we want to have a $10 24hr tournament this weekend, then the client has the ability to let us do that. Though I guess if the game is really on its last legs and no one's going to be playing anymore, then there's not much of a point. I was just hoping CM would be able to survive a bit longer in the community's hands.
As for this new game, it sounds like it could be pretty cool. I have to admit, it doesn't really intrigue me as much as Cordial, but I'm not really in to survival games or MMOs. Then again, Jason would be the developer to change my mind, if anyone can! I'll definitely give it a shot at least once to check it out
Hey, thanks CellBlock! That'd be awesome! Ya, streaming and these side-by-side videos really seem like a good idea to show off the game to more people!
I used OBS for my side of the match. I'll do a little write-up tonight when I'm home about setting it up. It's fairly straight forward if I remember correctly.
Thanks!
...well that's sorta disappointing. It doesn't even mention CM by name, but at least they link to it. Maybe we could poke Jason and ask if he could take a day to change the tournaments from daily to player created. That way we could keep it going if he's moved on.
Yay!! Thank you guys so much for joining the stream and watching the video!
Seeing both sides is actually really eye-opening. There are plenty of times where I folded with a winning hand or second guessed myself. I'd love to do more of these videos! I'm also going to make some flashcards explaining the game that I can use as wallpapers behind the live stream. So anyone new joining can understand the game easier.
Ano, I agree about the community aspect. Actually, my friend who just joined because of our livestream was saying the same thing. Thematically, it makes sense to isolate players from each other behind anonymity, but community is what keeps a game alive. I love this community, but not everyone who plays the game finds the forum.
I'm going to keep streaming and making videos. Hopefully that'll help extend the reach of the community further than the forums.
Also, Jere and I want to do more of these side-by-sides, and not just between us! If any of you would be interested, let us know!
Yay! Thanks so much for watching!!
Oh man, ya! It got seriously intense a few times! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Edit: Wanted to let you know that one of my friends who watched the stream made an account! Thought that was kinda cool
Awesome!! Hah!
Ok, so we're just about ready, I think. We should be starting within the next five minutes or so. I'll be streaming it on my personal Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/manedcalico
Hopefully I don't embarrass myself
He and I are going to start setting up at around 10am, so it should start a little after that.
And ya, we're going to be combining footage of both sides of the game into a video!
Jere and I will be playing a few games against each other this Sunday morning (PDT) in order to create a video that shows both sides of the game.
I'll be live streaming my end on Twitch while he and I chat on Skype. I'll post the link to the channel here when we're about to go live.
Feel free to drop in and watch!
Edit: Clarified the time zone!
